The Donald Berman YALDEI Developmental Center will be offering a 9 week social skills group for children aged 5-8 and 9-12 year olds. The social group meets for 8 weeks and the final week (9th. session ) each parent meets with the therapist for 15 minutes to discuss your child’s progress.
As a developmental center and a Ministry Registered school, Yaldei understands the importance of teaching social skills as a prerequisite for learning and social participation. These skills are necessary to build strong and lasting friendships from an early age.
These groups are designed for children who have difficulty navigating and participating in social situations. During social skills groups at Yaldei we will teach and target key social skills such as starting and continuing conversations, sharing, taking turns, and problem-solving skills. Social skills are taught through games and play with experienced therapists guiding the social interactions and targeting goals unique to each child.
Each group will include:
Snack time (to work on socializing while eating)
Competitive game or sport (to target appropriate behaviour in competition)
Cooperative game or sport (to target teamwork)
Interactive or social game (to work more intensely on social goals)
Free sports (to target appropriate play in natural situations).
Each child will have his own social goals that the therapist will measure each time they meet. Parents will be presented with their child’s goals at the beginning of the program, an update halfway through, and a brief report at the end including their child’s progress.
Group Leader: Linda Alfonsi DeFazio -Linda is a senior behaviour therapist with 15 years of experience in various approaches of Applied Behaviour Analysis, Intensive Behavioural Intervention and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy. She has worked extensively in centres, schools, home settings, and one on one alongside multi-disciplinary teams using behaviour analysis and data collection to personalize each program.

The social skills groups will take place at the Donald Berman YALDEI Developmental Center and School. This is a 9 week session and the cost is $400.00 upon registration.

Starting the week of February 25/ 26 and ending the week of May 12/13, 2020
Wednesday 4:30 to 6:00pm – 5 to 8 year old boys
Tuesday 5:00 to 6:30pm – 9 to 12 year old boys
